How does Hubpages compare to Infobarrel?
82Both Hubpages and Infobarrel are do follow revenue sharing article writing sites. This comparison has been made numerous times but I think I have some unique insights. I will be treading some familiar ground but some new ones as well.
Revenue Sharing:
Hubpages is 60% Adsense whereas Infobarrel is 75%. Hubpages however let's you make 10% additional impressions if someone clicks on your internal link if you put in a tracker url thus making the revenue sharing 70% in some cases. Hubpages is 60% kontera whereas Infobarrel is 0% kontera. Kontera is where the advertisements look like links. You can chose whether to put Kontera in or not in Hubpages whereas you can't with Infobarrel. Kontera can look a little spammy so that's one detraction from Infobarrel as you are unable to remove it in contrast to hubpages. You can also use hubpages as a test run for Kontera before implementing it on your main site. You can't do that with infobarrel as with no revenue sharing there's no tracking.
Infobarrel has Chitika whereas Hubpages has Ebay. Chitika is pay per click so you might get some free money from window shopper traffic whereas with ebay they have to buy. The advantage of ebay(and amazon) is that you can encourage people to click on the ads so you get the cookie in their browser. Ebay stores the cookie for a little bit longer so you may get some extra money from any other products bought by that user(although you don't get as much commission as you would if they bought the exact product they clicked on).
Referrals:
Both Infobarrel and Hubpages have a referral program. Infobarrel is more transparent(2%) whereas I believe Hubpages is (10%) but it's harder and confusing to use. Hubpages allows you to implement your referral code as part of your link to your pages on the site via the tracking code whereas with Infobarrel that's a backlink that's wasted.
Do-Follow:
Both are do-follow but Hubpages requires you to have an author score over 75 whereas Infobarrel gives you do-follow instantly. Infobarrel caps you on two external link in the article between signature and regular article. Infobarrel allows self promotional material and off-topic links in your sig whereas hubpages wants mostly related content. Hubpages has no such cap except for two to one external domain and no excessive links.
Hubpages encourage you to build internal links to the site via the HubKarma score and the ability to use trackers to make 10% more impressions. Getting an author score of 75 is confusing but it seems to steadily go up over time. Infobarrel puts internal links to other pages on infobarrel which dilutes the power of your links.
However, you can put as many internal links as you link including the first word as an internal link. If you put enough internal links you can discourage infobarrel's other internal links thereby keeping the link juice flowing between your properties. Infobarrel won't allow external links in the first paragraph whereas hubpages does which makes the score in Hubpages favor in this regard.
Content:
Both want lengthy content. Infobarrel wants more than 325 words. Hubpages implicitly likes more content. Both seem to prefer content between 400-1000 words. Hubpages won't allow you to use duplicate content for linkbuilding whereas Infobarrel doesn't let you use duplicate content period.
Infobarrel has more editorial constraints than hubpages and hubpages does allow for short length poems as long as they obey certain constraints.
Both allow you to build internal links to your profile page via comments on other hubs/barrels and on the forums.
Infobarrel has an easier user interface than Hubpages but Infobarrel doesn't let you build custom one off sigs which could lead to a clutter of sigs(this can happen if you build custom sigs for each article). There's no equivalent for hubpages but you can build custom capsules for each article.
Ad Placement:
Both have a pretty optimal placement for adsense(as much as you can without looking spammy like at wisegeek or ezine articles). Hubpages gives you more control over amazon and the other adsense ads.
The Verdict:
This may sound like an evasive answer but it depends. If you are new I'd recommend signing up for hubpages right away so you can get the age benefit on your author score. Then I'd start writing for infobarrel because it's a little bit easier to use. I'd write 10 infobarrels and 10 hubs then alternate between them so you can get more unique links from unique c-class ips. Although really you could probably use each of them quite a bit if you have several pages to your sites.

I'm a member of both sites, so this helped me understand more. Thanks
Interesting comparison between hubpages and infobarrel, been researching this and i find this article different and informative fro the others I read. Thank you.
Exactly what I was looking for. I signed up with IB first, and have been disappointed with the lack of traffic. However, the IB community is VERY helpful, and I agree, it is very user friendly and easy to get started. That being said, I am loving Hub so far, and curious to see what the future brings with it.
Great info, thanks! Gave it a thumbs up and a rating.

I'm still learning about web 2.0 sites. I didn't know about Infobarrel. I notice that Infobarrel only has PR 4 compared to Hubpages PR 6. Do you find a big difference between the two in terms of "backlink juice?"
